Re: WPM playback issues

Hi Peter ,

thankyou for getting in touch via email, as promised here is the solution in the event anyone else should come across this:

If playing a web transaction back in the orion console and it comes back with a failed sign and says no resource found a few things to check:

- Check the proxy settings, even though the may point to what appears to be the right port its always worth testing on the local machine

- If you have DBA find out if they have a custom proxy.pac file, if so make sure he has added in the solarwinds server and all the sites you wish to record as a transaction.

- Check what proxy settings they have set up on the proxy.pac file and manually assign this to the player location > advanced settings pull down menu.

This should resolve it, or if unlike me they didnt make you aware that they had there own custom proxy.pac files extensions with a huge exclusion list.

Another piece which is worth checking but is a little work involved is to do the following:

1. Ensure that you do not have Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user) group policy enabled on the player machine

Run Gpedit.msc

In the left pane, expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components.

Select Internet Explorer.

In the right pane, double-click Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user).

Select Not Configured and then click OK.

Run Gpupdate /force

Restart the SolarWinds SEUM Playback Player service.

Go to the Transaction edit page and expand the “Advanced” section

Fill in the “Proxy URL” field. Use the complete proxy URL in the following format http://123.123.123.123:8080

Save the transaction

If you do not want to define proxy per transactions, you can define it for the whole player. Configure the web proxy in Internet Explorer and then change the computer settings to make the proxy settings per-machine instead of per-user.

1- Configure Internet Explorer to use a web proxy (Microsoft KB 135982).

2- Run Gpedit.msc

3- In the left pane, expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components.

4 - Select Internet Explorer.

5 -In the right pane, double-click Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user).

6 - Select Enabled and then click OK.

7 - Run Gpupdate /force

8 - Restart the SolarWinds SEUM Playback Player service.

****If the proxy is defined “per-machine,” any setting that is defined “per-transaction” through the transaction edit page will be ignored****

Cheers and many thanks to peter and the solarwinds team.
