Re: FEATURE REQUEST - Time Settings for Transactions

Hello naeemfirdous,

you can unmanage the transaction during the time the page is non operational. You can either schedule a one time unmanage window on the website on the Manage Transactions page. Or there is an Unmanage Scheduling Utility which will allow you to schedule a periodic unmanage window. It can be found in start menu under Programs > Solarwinds Orion > Advanced features > Unmanage Scheduling Utility.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Should we expect official IE11 support anytime soon?  IE11 seems to work in most cases, but I have come across a few pages that work fine in IE10 but just hang in IE11 which is preventing us from upgrading.

With all the recent IE security issues, we'd like to update soon.   Windows Server 2012 R2 comes with IE11, so we can't run R2 either.

Thanks.

1. Did you configure the players with the same number of worker processes? 2. Are you using the default user accounts (SEUM-User-1)?

Shanlon, It would also depend on how big a load/environment your NPM is handling or potentially will handle in the future, and how big you figure your WPM environment will be. Our environment is big enough that running the WPM server on a different server makes sense. Yes, the databases live in the same environment, and they are also apart from any other environments that are being monitored by SolarWinds.

It's something we are actively looking on, let me update WWWO post, so we make it explicit. As soon as we will have something to test, I will send an update to forums.

WPM & Proxy settings - Help!

$

Hello,

I've a WPM monitor set up on an internal server in order to check that Internet access is available from our internal systems.

I seem to encounter the following issue whereby when I log into the server in question, using one of the accounts I've created for SEUM, that when recording the transaction, everything appears fine, the webpages load & all looks rosy...

As soon as I refer this to WPM though, I get the following

"The computer where this player is located uses an active proxy server; however, the recording being played back from it does not contain the required authentication. This may be the cause of the failed playback. To correct this, verify that this website is accessible from this player’s computer without proxy authentication, or, recreate the transaction with the correct authentication."

I've used websites (ServiceNow) that are exclusively allowed through our proxy, I've tried this with having the proxy URL set within the transaction & without - either way, this still results in the above message.

I've also tried using Google / Amazon & again, having the proxy set or not within the transaction, still no luck.

What I'm struggling to understand is why, when logged in as a user that SEUM uses, it works? What is happening differently once I let WPM take over?

I'm sure I've missed some setting or other, however, on all the other servers I use this on (for varying other checks) I see no issues..

Relatively 'new' to WPM & if I can provide more info, please let me know.

Thanks,

Daniel

I tried to schedule the unmange duration but it does not work. The job starts at 11.00 PM and stops at 11.14 PM but i cannot see the transaction getting unmanaged

Once you created a cmd file using unmanage scheduling utility did you tag it with a task in your task scheduler to run at 10:59 PM everyday ?

Changing name of web transaction (WPM)

Hi,

We have changed our website name and just wanted to rename the web transaction names on solarwinds. Also i don't want to disturb the existing data of the same website.

Is there any way to do the same ?

Thanks,

Fahad

While unlikely that most may not have the situation of a transaction running only once a week, hence not having the ability to reset an alert until the following week... and also having the problem of no alert actions occurring because the next run resulted in the same status... here is one answer to the situation. Use the escalate feature for each alert action and set to alert again in 7 days if the status remains the same. Thanks to Xander Snyder for his thoughts on this problem.

I went ahead and paid to opened a support case with Microsoft to try to work on this issue (as the issue is essentially the lack of ability to control the size of this WebCacheV01.dat file). They basically told me that there is absolutely no way to control the size of this cache. You'd think that they would provide a way to control this via a local policy or at least in IE being that Microsoft is all about granular control in products such as Group Policy.

I ended up coming up with a solution that works pretty well. If you deny each user permissions to their own Webcache folder, the browser simply doesn't write to cache. I left the player running like this with 250+ transactions for a few weeks without any trouble (transactions going unknown, etc). All you need to do is run the below script once after the player builds all user accounts. This way you don't need to keep running scripts to clean the cache.

icacls "C:\Users\SEUM-User-1\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache" /deny "SEUM-User-1":(f) /t /c

icacls "C:\Users\SEUM-User-2\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache" /deny "SEUM-User-2":(f) /t /c

icacls "C:\Users\SEUM-User-3\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache" /deny "SEUM-User-3":(f) /t /c

icacls "C:\Users\SEUM-User-4\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache" /deny "SEUM-User-4":(f) /t /c

icacls "C:\Users\SEUM-User-5\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache" /deny "SEUM-User-5":(f) /t /c

icacls "C:\Users\SEUM-User-6\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache" /deny "SEUM-User-6":(f) /t /c

icacls "C:\Users\SEUM-User-7\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache" /deny "SEUM-User-7":(f) /t /c

Hopefully this can be of use.

Thanks,

Josiah

I had a similar issue, has the account you are using to do the monitoring ever logged onto the poller in question?  I think that rectified my issue by making sure the account had logged into the server before any of the transactions had ran

What do you mean by name of transaction? Name of transaction consists of name of recording + where it is monitored from. So for example "www.google.com from player X", this format can't be change, but you can change name of recording.
