Re: WPM & Proxy settings - Help!

I would log into the player computer using the account(s) you created for WPM.  Check to see what the proxy settings are for that user.  Start IE and check the proxy config.  I bet it still has a proxy configured for the user.

Hi & thanks for the replies..

I've logged into the server where the player is located using both my own account & the account that SEUM uses & yes, there is a proxy in place. I thought that even if this was the case, then configuring the same proxy within the transaction would negate this though?

Again, I can't quite grasp why, when logged in as the SEUM user & running/creating the transaction it all runs fine, but as soon as I 'automate' it, I get the proxy issue in the transaction? I'm sure I read somewhere (but typically can't find it now) I can add or enter details of accounts for SEUM within some config file on the player server in question?

Funnily (?) enough, as I was typing this a lightning bolt of inspiration struck me, I think I found what I need to do here (facepalm moment possibly) but there is within "C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SEUM\Player" the SolarWinds.SEUM.AgentDomainConfigurationTool.exe where you can add/configure domain accounts..

I shall wander down this route & report back!

That could well be it, otherwise it will be trying to use the 5-7 local accounts it creates during install.

Fahad, Like Peter said... From "Manage Recordings" window you can edit the name of the recording and create a new monitor at whatever locations you have setup, or you can open the recording and save it as another name, but will still need to create a new monitor. Creating the monitor gives you the new transaction name. If you are asking about changing the new website name within the recording that is a different set of steps. Please advise what you are wanting to do. Paul

Ok, I'm back & bearing good news I'm pleased to say!

Configured the accounts using the SolarWinds.SEUM.AgentDomainConfigurationTool.exewithin "C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SEUM\Player" & re-ran the transaction via the web console (with proxy settings in place within the transaction) & BINGO! Looks to be working..

Ref the 5-7 local accounts created upon install, I had to get one of our internal team to install on this particular server so I possibly missed that aspect (there didn't appear to be any accounts created that I could see?).

Either way, in a good place atm & this appears to be working as required now, so thanks to all for your replies/inspiration with this!

Hello fahad,

I am sorry for late response. If you open the report in Orion Report Writer, you should be able to filter the results in the 'Filter Results' tab.

1) Open report in Orion Report Writer

2) Go to Filter Results tab

3) fill the conditions in following manner:

  •      Select records where any of the following apply
    • records where Transaction Id is equal to 2
    • records where Transaction Id is equal to 5
    • records where Transaction Id is equal to 8

4) if you don't know the Transaction ID #, you can use Transaction Name value, but I don't recommend it in case you rename transactions

Hope this helps, if you have further inquiries, please refer to Reports topics of NPM product here Network Performance Monitor

Sorry for the late reply. Please check if you have installed WPM 2.0.1 Hotfix 3, you can find it in the customer portal. It addresses an issue with unmanage functionality and it might help in your case.

do you use the same credentials (Administrator) to manually unmanage the trasaction on Solarwinds GUI? I am not be completely correct but give it a try by changing the same to Solarwinds crendential. Use the Solarwinds credentials to login into your unmanage schedule utility and create a task using the same credential rather than Admin credential.

Playing back a transaction recording

Hello all,

I am interested in recording a traction that captures various processes such as login, some few page navigation and some data entry on web forms. One feature of the application would enable an item to be removed from a HTML grid list depending on user input from a data entry form. My question is, if I have made the recording and the application is playing back the recording, does it end up preforming CRUD operations as would have been performed during the recording. A similar scenario would be picking items from a list and adding to a cart in shopping site. When performing the playback, would the whole processes modify the back-end database? Thanks in advance. I look forward to your feedback.

Regards,

Caesar

Fred where at in the settings did you go to make this change?  I'm running to the same issue and would like to resolve it as well.

Duplicate alerts generated from playbacks

I created this post in addition to a ticket I've opened with the customer support. It's intended to be more of a reference so they can get a better explanation of it. Feel free to make suggestions though if you guys have any ideas.

We're using the WPM to ensure that our Online Banking website is up. It's configured to run a transaction playback every 30 minutes and send out an email if it's unable to complete it. All was working fine till we added a second transaction playback to the mix for Mobile banking. When the additional transaction playback was added we started receiving duplicate emails when It would go down time stamped with the exact same time consistently for failures and successes. I originally thought that it was because we only had one alert configured with the logic of Type of Property to Monitor: Transaction
Trigger Alert when all of the following apply
Status is equal to Down

I reconfigured that alert so it now says:                                            Also added a second separate alert for Mobile banking

OnlineAlert.PNGMobileAlert.PNG

This did not resolve the issue and we are still getting duplicate alerts. I've tested each of these alerts and they each only generate one email when tested. The duplicate emails are being generated by the Mobile Banking transaction playback and we do not seem to be getting failures from the online one at all.

Emails.PNG

OnlineMessage.PNGMobileMessage.PNG

These are the messages that are set to be sent out for the triggered action. I made the mistake of creating an alert one time before where I copied the failure message from the triggered action to the success message on the reset action so it would look as if we were getting another failure message when it would send out the recovery. I've verified that I have not done that this time. Also I've made sure that the failure messages for both of the alerts are different.

Hi belthasarx user,

From the screenshots you shared it seems you have some escalation actions configured. Can you edit the settings on Alert Escalation tab?

I believe that some of the settings may be set wrong for you, e.g. Execute this action repeatedly may result in duplicating alerts.

Hope this helps

Yes I did configure the Alert Escalation to Execute this Action repeatedly while Alert is Triggered and the Execute this Action repeatedly every 30 minutes was selected. The Delay the execution of this Action was not used. The intent was for the alert to continue to send us notifications of the website being down until someone would make sure that it came back up. I will disable the escalation and see if this resolves the issue. I'm not sure that this will resolve the issue though because it was previously configured that way when I only had one alert setup and one transaction playback. Also we get the duplicate failure message as soon as it goes down the very first time. It's not a case of it starts with only one failure and then the next time we get two failures, one being from the playback warning us it's down and a second from the escalation.

Hi,

playback of the recording is from your web application perspective same thing a if you would be clicking in browser. So any operation you record is played back and your applications reacts as any user would perform same. So if any actions you record modify database of your application it will happen also when played back.

Hope that helps,

Peter

Unfortunately disabling the alert escalation did not seem to resolve the issue but at least I can rule that out now. The SolarWinds customer support have advised me to try to delete the alerts and recreate them from scratch. I've done so this morning and now it's just a waiting game to see when it goes down again if it generates the alert properly. I will update with if this resolves it or not once I find out.

Restricting users to specific transactions

Does WPM currently have a way to restrict users so that they can only see specific transactions?  We would definitely need this feature if we were to consider the product.  I currently have a demo of it up and running in the lab and both my manages and our customers love it.  The ability to restrict users has been the only problem I have had.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Hello, you can use account limitations to limit what user can see. Currently WPM has support for setting limitation to Transaction and Player Location.

Hi Byron,

Yes, you can use account limitations. WPM uses same approach as other Orion platform products.

Steps to set restrictions to a user:

  1. Go to Settings on web console.
  2. Click on >Manage Accounts
  3. Select an user whom you want to apply restrictions to
  4. Click Edit
  5. In Account Limitations section, click Add limitation
  6. Select e.g. "Group of Transactions" limitation. Continue
  7. Choose transactions the user will be able to see and submit

It is that simple.

Thanks

Deleting the alert and recreating it from scratch did resolve the issue. It just doesn't make any sense why though because I checked over everything multiple times and all of the settings now are exactly the same way that they were before. Oh well call this one solved.
